Avoiding some things consistently can make your life easier and you happier.
This year the 3 to avoid consistently are
Fear of Missing Out or FOMO
Stop thinking that you are missing out and should be out there doing stuff. For one, falling behind in life does not really exist and for 2, missing out on some things in your life is not a bad thing. You can miss out on things being done by others at 18, at 28 at 35 at 40 and at 50 because these people will have walked a different path from yours.
That path could have come about because they were talent scouted, because of their qualifications, because of a contact or even an inheritance. Or, they could have had a very difficult first few years and a different set of doors opened for them. Do not fear because other doors will open for you. If not, fear of missing out is the quickest way to make you unhappy or make you easy pickings for scammers.
The more you avoid the fear of missing out the more you learn that you are just ok and your patience means that you are setting yourself up to make good decisions for your future. This can only be a good thing and does bode well for your being a success.
Following Someone Else’s Path
The online picture presented before you is the picture you want for yourself but, following someone else’s path is not as straight forward as it looks. Yes, you may choose the same profession, go to the same university, take the same courses and join the same industry or a similar company but, your outcome will be different.
You are you, so stop thinking that you must do the exact same thing to get the exact same results. To begin with life has since changed since the person you want to emulate started. Study what has changed in your chosen industry or simply your neighbourhood see if there is something there that aligns with what you want to do in life.
When you identify that thing, do the needful. If it means doing an online course, going to University or if it simply means learning a skill instead of doing a master’s degree, do it. As paths go, they do not open up simply because you followed a prescribed way.
Move away from the path you have built in your head formed by someone else’s experience and start experiencing life your way.
Putting Things Off
That same old same old that feels like unending work is the one thing we all like to avoid. It is monotonous and boring but, avoiding the little things does have a long term big impact. So, do not avoid the small stuff. Get on with it and the best way is to find out your work style.
Do you work better in the morning, in the afternoon or right after dark? When you know when you best work, get on with doing the small stuff. Things like checking the amount of stock you have, cleaning the work space, checking your finances, studying for a test or making a delivery timetable.
It may mean not going out on a Friday, getting up a little earlier in the morning, not going for lunch or staying open a little longer. Being consistent with this routine is a must. The more you do it, the easier it’ll be to stick to it. Avoiding it will only make it harder because if you do not build a work style, you will find it hard to manage the rest of your work day.
