Starting a business is filled with lots of unknowns so asking others who have walked that path is the smart thing to do. Here is why
You Can Learn From Their Experiences
They may not be doing the exact same thing you wish to do but their input can be invaluable. If you accept the fact that some things in life can be avoided by asking others then you know that even in business, the same is true.
As a rule most people in life will tell you what you cannot do rather than what you can do and so many people forgo the move of asking others. This is because other people with no facts fill your head with negative thoughts. Do not fall into this trap, ask advice from experienced business people and do not make it something to fear or avoid.
Start by making a list of what you wish to learn and are afraid of. Put these things to those that experienced similar fears. Then ask what they did to overcome these fears. You have nothing to lose by asking other people but, be mindful that you must choose a person you trust or someone who is trusted in your circles or the social media groups you belong to.
Ask people because their life experience is what you can draw from so that you do not make the same mistakes or so that you make the right decisions.
You Can and Will Save Time
The thing about asking others is that you will gain some time. You do not have to re-invent the wheel. There is safety in doing what already worked for others. All you need to do is to map out the direction you wish to take by writing down what needs to be done. Then start moving toward your own goal by collecting as much related information as you can and adapting it to fit the business you would like to begin.
Be mindful that things will not unfold in the exact same way as the person you asked. This doesn’t mean you are failing. You taking a risk and stepping out into the unknown is success enough.
Do avoid measuring success against unreasonable standards or making it time bound.
