There are times in the year business is booming and other times it is very slow, either way here is what you can do to keep on top of things
Check Your Plan
You have a plan, so go back to it and check what has happened to date. If you do not have a plan, make one now for the year. Yes, you can start any month because when you have an idea of where you want the business to be monthly, quarterly and for the whole year, you will be well prepared for anything; good or bad.
If you can, also make a vision board to help you visualize what each year will look like. Your vision board in pictures for each project or task per month will tell you all you need to know and whether or not you are on track or not. Take a picture of the board and make that your screen saver so you can keep an eye on things daily.
Also, remind yourself what the purpose is for starting this business.
Check Your Documents
Do not just check the tax information, utility bills and outstanding debts but everything about your business. Check other documents like the information you keep on how much money you have, how much you are spending to operate, how often you are advertising, whom you are advertising to, how you intend to make money and who the competition are.
If you do not have any of these details, you should start keeping these records now as they will come in handy when it comes to checking on how things are going and if you should go on. Think of this as your personal search engine that you can refer to any time you are stuck or need a reminder of how things should be done.
Pick a Task
You can only pick a task for the quarter if you break things down, for instance if you have a product or service you want to launch then, your task is making a product roadmap. In the road map be specific about the product or service that you intend to offer. Outline all the features, improvements, and timelines for the product’s development and when you intend to release it.
If the task is marketing then write down the marketing initiatives and strategies that you intend to use be it flyers, radio, television, social media efforts or other marketing events. Or if you would like to build a website, outline the kind of website you would like, list who you can possibly ask ( or how much time you will use to search for someone ) and any upgrades you will need to your phone, tablet or computer that are required to support this task.
Breaking things down, makes it so much easier to complete tasks and reach goals. As long as you start at the long term vision that you have as this is the overall direction you want move in.
The break down into specific tasks and timelines for completing those specific tasks will give you a visual representation of the business and help to mark key milestones and to keep on top of things.
