You are probably like many of us just ordinary folk and consequently, as an ordinary person you will probably struggle to build an audience online.
If you are struggling there are a few things you can do to grow your audience and these are
Just Be You
Social media will make you think that you must be like other people in the way you dress, talk, what you eat, where you eat, what you drive, where you drive to and so on and so forth. You are different and this difference is what makes you unique.
Do not get lost in this one size fits all thinking and be yourself and use this to your advantage. Build your own brand and grow your audience by honing your skills in a spot you are comfortable in then aim to create content in it and in your own style.
Post and Engage
To build an audience you have to keep posting and be consistent with the content you post. If you are inconsistent, people will lose interest. Also, focus on what your audience is interested in and what they like to consume. Do not jump from one genre to another unless you can seamlessly work it into your usual style and the content they follow you for.
When you post do stick around and engage with the audience. Answer questions, comment on their comments and build relationships with them. To do this you have to follow them too and find out what their interests are so that you can create content that they can identify with or be comfortable engaging with.
Be Very Patient
Growing an audience in the thousands takes time so be patient, very patient. In the meantime keep an eye on the process by watching the pace at which you are growing and what content-wise is working or not working. This will require you to make use of the analytics option on your platform.
Analytics will help you to see the make-up of your audience i.e. age, location and very important, their interests. Seeing what they are interested in will give you an idea of what type of content they will most likely engage with or like and will ultimately show you which content is doing well and which needs to improved or dropped altogether.
