Many of us do want to make extra money and look for ways to do so but sometimes the tips we get should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Some bad tips are
Sell what is Popular
The thing about selling something that is popular may well work in one area but, what is popular in one area may not be in the place you are.
For instance, in some places selling clothing is popular but when you try doing the same in your area you find that your stock is not selling and sits gathering dust. This may be due to the fact that people in your area do not buy new clothes but, prefer second hand ones.
So even as you consider going into selling a popular item try to actually find out if it will sell. Steer away from selling what is popular and sell what is actually needed and missing.
Instead study the place you are in and watch what people buy, where they get it from and zoom in on that product that is being asked for but the outlet is closed at certain times. Fill that time slot. It could be something very simple like sugar bread salt or tomatoes but, the usual spots are closed so take advantage of that.
Try selling the items when people are coming home from work, getting off the bus and thinking about the evening meal. Be ready at their door step with the product. And cultivate a system of trust and reliability. And soon the sugar tomatoes or salt is something that people will buy from you without haggling and wasting time.
Do remember that there’s no guarantee that certain actions will lead to certain results. This is due to the fact that selling to people at their homes, on the street as they go home and their usual haunts will come down to your interactions and people are unpredictable. You’ll have to learn the ropes and make adjustments as you go along to find the best approach for your situation.
Sell what you Also Use
Then there is that advice about selling what you use. Sounds sensible but do know that it means that you will be tempted to be dipping in when and whenever you want to. Someone will say, we need such and such and you dip into the stock. Dipping into the stock willy-nilly means you will lose track of stock.
Also, you will find that you are taking stock and not paying the business. Instead, sell something that you will not use every day but is also something that you know is needed by your target.
If there are some things that you do not use but are against your values like alcohol and tobacco do not venture there. To be successful, you’re going to have to push your product and not feel bad about it.
Also, if you are bad with interacting with people do not venture into something that will have you interact with people on a daily basis. If you struggle to make new personal connections or you’re just not a social person, direct selling may not be right for you or it can be extremely challenging.
