Do Not Do This on Your Social Media

Social media has become the center of your life and it is probably impossible for you to imagine what life would be like without it.

Much as you depend on social media, there are some things you should not do on your social media and they are

Do Not Assume

Do not assume there is any single path, there is no single way to use social media and there is no playbook and there will be no one to hold your hand and show you how to navigate the space you are on.

Yes, people often complain about the amount of noise there is on social media but, it is so because you and countless others are learning and feeling your way on this massive place. Also, this diversity of voice will help you to pick what suits you, what you like, what you dislike and what you should do on it.

Simply put, you have to navigate the platform all by yourself and aside from the terms and conditions of the platform or group you are on the way you come across thereafter is up to you. Listen to the voice in your head, and learn to rust it. More often than not that voice will let you know if you’re on the right path as much as the comments, reposts and followers you will get.

Do not be somebody else

Be yourself, do what works best for you. The one thing you’ve got that no one else does is your own voice, your own style, your own approach. Use it. If you try to pretend to do business, make jokes, write posts and create content like another person, you will most probably be bad at it. Or worse, fail.

Know your reason for being online and nurture it. Enjoy being on the platform or in the group you are on and make sure it is doing what you want it to do for you. While you are there show why you are on the platform and what you have to offer.

Do not Get Sucked In

People will annoy you on social media but, do not get sucked into that abyss. Don’t be swept up in that kind of tag of words that will suck the pleasure of being on the platform you are one. Simply, do not let yourself be baited. There are people online whose primary goal is to bait you and switch the conversation to favor them.

Ignore those types of interactions because not getting sucked in brings a peace that is priceless. On the other hand, do not be unnecessarily rude or hostile. Always try to diffuse a situation as quickly as possible and log off. If you do not, the situation will escalate and will serve the other person more than you. You will now be the bait that will pull others into the other person’s realm and the other person will capitalize on this attention after making you look like the “bad” one.

This does not mean you must hate someone for the feedback they give you. Nothing that is posted online is liked by all. Followers and other users will have a different opinion of your posts. Learn to accept what you believe are valid comments and recurring issues that you probably might need to address.
